Musical Review

DR. DEMENTO:

Star Trekkin!

A great fan favorite, Star Trekkin was the UK number one single on June 16th 1987. Many people don't know that this song was not written or performed by Dr. Demento. A group call The Firm from the UK is actually the force behind this great classic. It has however, been on several Dr. Demento compilations from his syndicated radio show including Dr. Demento Presents the Greatest Novelty CD of All Time in 1988, Dr. Demento: 20th Anniversary Collection in 1991 and Dr. Demento: Hits From Outer Space in 2006. The genius of this song is it's great use of catchphrase parodies and deliberate misreadings from the famous TV series.

Coldplay

Viva La Vida

I absolutely love the addition of kettle drums and strings in this song. It is almost surreal how beautifully this piece was put together, the atmospheric undertones created a huge extra layer for the background effect. This single was released in May of 2008. The full album was released on June 17th 2008. Viva La Vida in Spanish means Long Live Life or Live the life, the band took the name from the Painting by Artist Frida Kahlo. It sold 125,000 copies on its first day on the selves and is currently the #1 single in the UK.

Movie Review

3.75 Stars out of 5

Blade Runner

What an excellent film!

The movie is directed by Ridley Scott ( Thelma & Louise, Black Hawk Down and Gladiator) and Stars Harrison Ford and Sean Young. It's interesting to see the similarities that the replicants (villains of the movie) have to the Joker and Harley Quinn. Both wear face make up and have acrobatic like attack skills. In Blade Runner the replicants are highly skilled androids that have a short life span. The idea for these characters came from the play R.U.R. also known as Rossum's Universal Robots (interestingly enough I worked as a stage hand for a production of this show at Southern Utah University).

Woah, Joel created a blog?

Hello Kats and Kittens, Family and Friends!

Yes, It is true I have finally decided to begin a blog. why you ask have I finally made the leap to begin a blog. Well the answer is, I was pondering today on what forum I could really express some thoughts and happenings in my life and decided that making a blog seems the most fitting choice. So here we go Blogosphere land!

Reasons for creating this blog in no particular order (topics that will most likely be discussed later on)

1. To talk about school and various other school related topics

2. To talk about work and new developements with work

3. Vader was framed (nuff said)

4.New movies coming out (particularly DC and Marvel Comics movies) and my rating of them.

5. Music (will definitely be a big thing in the blog)

6.Shows coming up

7. Politics (sometimes I get a little political and feel the need to talk about it)

8.Vacations

9.Reactions to other people's blogs and comments on this blog

10. Comic books and dunny's (for those of you who don't know recently I have become something of a regular collecter of the kidrobot toy dunny series)

11. Favortie TV shows (To include, Heroes, Nip/Tuck, Survivor, etc.)

Thats about it for now folks, Till next time!
